The new Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, is getting a lot of heat for his 1,000-mile commute. He’s flying from his home in Newport Beach, California, to Starbucks HQ in Seattle on a company jet.Starbucks CEO

People online are not happy, pointing out that this seems pretty out of touch with Starbucks’ green and eco-friendly image. Niccol is set to start his new gig on September 9, but there’s been no word from Starbucks about this situation yet.

The job offer said Niccol doesn’t have to move to Seattle but will need to travel back and forth for work. He can totally use Starbucks’ private jet for these trips and even work from a little office they’re making in Newport Beach. Starbucks usually says employees need to be in the office at least three days a week, but it’s not clear if Niccol has to follow that rule too.

The news has got everyone talking on social media. Some folks are making fun of Starbucks’ green claims, while others are talking about how much the new CEO is getting paid. Niccol earns $1.6 million a year and could get up to $30 million more in bonuses and stock options.

Before this, Niccol turned Chipotle around, doubling its sales and boosting its stock price. Now, as Starbucks tries to lift its sales, they’re hoping he can bring the same success to the coffee giant.
