Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Edition: World’s First Tri-Fold Smartphone

Just now, Huawei launched the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Edition. It immediately turned the discussion away from the launch of Apple’s iPhone 16 series. This mates XT features a foldable 10.2-inch display with 3K resolution. In folded conditions, it operates as a phone like a 6.4-inch phone, and if you fold it halfway, then it is like a 7.9-inch phone-fully opened it becomes a 10-inch tablet.

What makes it special is that, unlike the other foldable phones that sport two screens, Huawei’s phone uses just one screen that folds at two spots. It is also a bit pricey to buy starting at 1,99,999 Yuan, which is roughly Rs 2,35,000, but then there is nothing quite like this out there. The pre-orders for the phone start now and it goes on sale in China from September 20.

The Mate XT weighs 298g and is just 3.6mm thick when unfolded, arguably the thinnest phone in existence. Huawei employed the most advanced tech, including super-strong laminated structure and non-Newtonian fluid to make the two hinges of the phone extra tough and smoothly foldable.

It runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.2, driven by the Kirin 9000S chip, probably similar to what they provided for their Mate 60 Pro+. The RAM is 16GB large, with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB.

As for cameras, the Mate XT comes with a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, and a 12MP telephoto shooter with a 5.5x optical zoom. There is an 8MP camera on the front for selfies.

Even at that super slim size, the smartphone boasts a rather big 5600mAh battery, which Huawei boasts is the thinnest on any smartphone. That will then support fast-charging-up to 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Huawei still manages to produce innovative phones amidst its US sanctions. But of course, these phones won’t hit shelves outside China.
