Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson was a fight that brought together a YouTube star and a boxing legend, ending in a surprising and controversial result.
Paul Beats Tyson, 58, on Points in a Boring Match
Jake Paul, the YouTuber who turned into a boxer, added an unexpected mark to Mike Tyson’s legendary boxing career by winning on points in a dull fight. It happened in front of 70,000 fans in Texas and millions more watching on Netflix.
Tyson, now 58 years old and not having fought professionally in almost two decades, was nowhere near his prime self.
Paul, who’s only 27 and still new to boxing, had the upper hand with his youth and energy. He kept Tyson at a distance, landing jabs and accurate punches in their eight-round fight, with each round lasting two minutes.
Tyson looked slow and tired. Fans cheered for him when he entered the ring, but by the end of the fight, the crowd wasn’t happy, and loud boos filled the arena. Some fans even left before the judges announced the scores: 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73, all in Paul’s favor.
Was This Fight Even Legit?
Many doubted if the fight was serious or just a show. Tyson, however, said he “came to fight.”
After the fight, in a strange and awkward moment, Tyson, now with seven losses in 57 pro fights, called out Jake’s brother Logan Paul and hinted that he might step into the ring again.
Gloves and Punches
The Texas commission allowed this fight as a pro match but made both fighters wear heavier gloves with extra padding. Even with lighter gloves, the punches wouldn’t have made much difference—there were no knockout-worthy hits.
Tyson only landed 18 punches during the whole fight, while Paul managed to land 78.
Jake Paul’s Journey
Jake Paul first became famous by posting prank videos and growing his social media following to a massive 70 million before trying his hand at boxing.
This win was Paul’s 11th in pro boxing, even though he lost to Tommy Fury last year. After the fight, Paul once again said he wanted to face Mexican boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
“He knows he wants a payday, so he knows where the money is at,” Paul confidently said.
