Pakistan Cricket Recovery Plan for Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: Bouncing Back After Bangladesh Test Loss

Pakistan, cricket, Bangladesh, Test match, Babar Azam, recovery, World Test Championship, bowling attack, spin, RawalpindiPakistan is now preparing for Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test. The planning is about Bouncing Back After Bangladesh Test Loss. Lately, Pakistan’s form has been terrible, losing to Bangladesh in Rawalpindi in the first Test came as a big surprise to many people. The team have been struggling for a little while now, and the rejigging of players as well as management hasn’t really helped. And now this defeat is every bit as bitter and biting as the one by the USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Worse still, Pakistan used to beat Bangladesh in Test matches, winning 12 out of 13 games before this one.

Pakistan is on the verge of dropping a home Test series to a Bangladesh side that frequently strangles to secure victory on foreign soil. And they have virtually touched the bottom of the World Test Championship standings. Nevertheless, despite all this, Pakistan has a chance to recover and tie the series when they meet in second Test starting on August 30 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium (at the same venue) again. They were bested by a 10 wickets defeat in that first clash, so what are some things Pakistan can do to recover from the defeat in First Test

1. Pick a Better Bowling AttackPakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

A lot of people, including former players and fans, are talking about Pakistan’s bowling choices in the first Test. The team went with an all-pace attack, which they’ve only done one other time at home in 28 years. Captain Shan Masood defended the decision, but it didn’t really work out. Part-time spinners ended up bowling 50 out of 168 overs, which shows the team might have made a mistake in choosing the bowlers.

Bangladesh’s spinners, Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan, took seven out of 10 wickets in Pakistan’s second innings, bowling them out for 146. The last time these teams played a Test, Pakistan’s off-spinner Sajid Khan took 12 wickets, but this time, they surprisingly left out leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed, who was supposed to be in the squad.

For the second Test, Pakistan should bring Abrar back into the playing XI, especially since he has taken 28 wickets in four home Tests. Since the second Test will also be in Rawalpindi, the pitch might favor spin, so Pakistan needs a better mix of pace and spin to balance the series.

2. See the First Test as a FlukePakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

Even though Pakistan made some big mistakes in the first Test, they can also see the loss as a one-time thing. They were in control during the first two days and could have batted longer to make sure Bangladesh had no chance of winning.

At 448/6, with Mohammad Rizwan on 171 and Shaheen Afridi on 29, Pakistan declared, hoping to push for a win. They then had Bangladesh struggling at 213/5 before two partnerships of 114 and 196 runs turned things around.

The Bangladesh batters, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan, played really well, but it took some rare things happening for Pakistan to lose this Test. The chances of it happening again? Pakistan hopes they are low.

3. Babar Azam Needs to Step UpPakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test

Sometimes, one star player can really make a difference, and for Pakistan, that player is Babar Azam. But he looked off in both innings of the first Test, scoring just 22 runs in total. His recent Test form has been poor, with an average of around 21 in the last seven matches since the start of 2023.

Babar has been super important for Pakistan, with an average of almost 57 in Test wins and 33.21 in losses. In his first three Tests against Bangladesh, he averaged 81, and Pakistan won all those games.

Pakistan cricket really needs a turnaround, and Babar scoring big runs again could be just what they need. There’s no better time to do it than in the second Test against Bangladesh, where he could help level the series.
