Reportedly The Next Bangladeshi Leader to be: Who is Muhammad Yunus?

Many of us have this question in our minds that Who is Muhammad Yunus? You see, he’s a big deal who recently received the Nobel Peace Prize. Others want him to remain their leader like in the case of some young protestors in Bangladesh. They want him to lead the new interim government.They want him to be The Next Bangladeshi Leader. They made this claim in a Facebook video published Tuesday morning. The chief of Bangladesh’s army is also set to meet student leaders on Tuesday at noon about the situation.

The Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus

You may know him better as the noble guy who was born in Bangladesh back on February 25th,1940. He is renowned for lending small amounts to entrepreneurs who are too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans This way, they can build a better life for themselves. For this, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

He has also received other great awards from the US government in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In 2011, he launched a new venture focused on lending money to companies that did good things for people. From 2012 to 2018, he worked as a key figure at a university in Scotland and also taught students from another public university of Bangladesh. Yunus branched out to work with other groups in continuing his quest for supporting people through micro-loans. From 1998 to today he was a member of United Nations’ big team. He has an undergraduate degree from a college in Bangladesh and then got awarded some kind of special scholarship to go study in the US where he became super smart economist. He taught in a university in US-switched jobs-leading department back at Bangladesh. He went to Vanderbilt University and got his Ph.D. in economics in 1969. After that, he started teaching at a university in Tennessee as a professor. Later, he went back to Bangladesh and became the head of the economics department at another university.

Yunus has also had several significant positions, including membership on the International Advisory Group for the Fourth World Conference on Women and was a commission member of the Global Commission in Women’s Health. He has been awarded the World Food Prize, The King Hussein Humanitarian Leadership Award and Seoul Peace Prize Award.

In 1974, while Bangladesh was experiencing a famine, Yunus felt that there must be some way to help the people escape from this human misery. Realizing he wanted to help people start small businesses, he started giving out long-term loans and eventually founded the Grameen Bank and led what we now call microfinance. This freed a lot of people from poverty and enabled them to live decent lives.

This year, Muhammad Yunus got in trouble for not treating his workers fairly. He was supposed to go to jail for six months, but he was let out. He’s also accused of taking a lot of money ($2.3 million) that was meant for workers at a big phone company. Instead of giving it to the workers, he gave it to the wrong people, so the workers didn’t get their money.
