Alain Delon Dies at 88: A Legend of French Cinema

Dame French actor Alain Delon Dies at the age of 88. He was a famous actor in French cinema’s golden age, known for his strong roles in films like The Samurai and Borsalino. Delon died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, including his three children.

Alain Delon DiesDelon had been in poor health for a while and had become almost completely withdrawn from the public. Lately, the breakdown of his family had also been making news in France.

Known as the handsomest man in film, Delon starred in popular films from the 1960s like The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers. He caught on with the public no matter what character he played, whether a murderer or a good-for-nothing charming scoundrel. By the 1990s, he was in fewer films; however, Delon still often appeared on the celebrity pages. His career spanned over 90 films.

His family said in a statement: “Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, as well as (his dog) Loubo, are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father. He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family.”

Le Parisian newspaper called Delon “a legend of the cinema,” while Liberation described him as “a leading figure of cinema, symbol of shadowy masculinity, the actor with crazy charisma.”

Delon’s last major public appearance was at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2019, where he received an honorary Palme d’Or. At the event, he gave an emotional speech, where he seemed to say goodbye to cinema. “It’s a bit of a posthumous tribute, but from my lifetime,” he said. “I am going to leave, but I won’t leave without thanking you.”Alain Delon Dies

For decades, the French public followed both Delon’s successful career and his colorful love life through magazines like Paris-Match. His personal life was always making headlines as he charmed his way through Europe during the height of his fame.

But Delon did not escape criticism either. His stance of supporting Jean-Marie Le Pen, boss of the far-right National Front, a die-hard supporter of the death penalty and an opponent of same-sex marriage, like other public statements from people involved with this film, attracted divisive comments. His past relationships with women are also another problematic issue that led to charges of misogyny.

Family Troubles in Delon’s Final Years

Recently, Delon’s family troubles have been in the news. He had three children—two sons and a daughter—by two different women, and another son who was unacknowledged and is now deceased.

In recent years, his surviving children have aired their disagreements in the media, with insults, accusations, lawsuits, and secret recordings. One issue involved disagreements over Delon’s medical treatment after he had a stroke in 2019.Alain Delon Dies

There was also a conflict with Hiromi Rollin, Delon’s former housekeeper. Delon’s children removed her from his home last year, but she later filed a lawsuit against them, accusing them of endangering Delon’s life by not giving him his medicine.

In April this year, a judge placed Delon under “reinforced curatorship,” meaning he no longer had full control over his assets.

Delon made headlines again in February when French police found 72 firearms and 3,000 rounds of ammunition at his home. He didn’t have a gun license. A shooting range was also discovered at his mansion in Douchy-Montcorbon.
