What is Biohacking? A Simple Guide to Human Body Upgrades

Imagine being stronger, faster, and even able to control your body temperature with just a thought. Sounds cool, right? Welcome to the world of biohackers!

But what exactly is biohacking? How do some people turn their bodies into science experiments and change themselves?

What is Biohacking?
It is about using various forms to upgrade and improve the human body. So, it is not about diet plans, workouts, wearing a smartwatch, and so on. The kind of biohacking we are talking about really takes things to another level altogether. We will explain how you can try it yourself later.

Biohackers consider the integration of technology and science into their bodies as a way to transcend themselves beyond their usual physical and mental limitations. In practice, what does that mean?

Types of Biohacking
Biohacking can be broadly classified into a few categories:

Biohacking

1. DIY Biotechnology
A few individuals do simple laboratory work in their homes as a means to experiment with DNA, genes, and even bacteria. Biohackers can attempt a type of do-it-yourself genetic modification with the purpose of either keeping them healthy or preventing specific diseases.

2. Nootropics (Brain-Boosting Substances)
Most biohackers are interested in the possibility of using their brains a little better. They use supplements or pills called nootropics to help them improve memory, concentrate their minds, and have sharpness in the head.

3. Biometric Monitoring
Biohackers use lots of devices that monitor their health status. They check sleep, heart rates, among any other health statuses, to find a way they can maximize their performance.

4. Advanced Technology Implants
Well, tech implants take the biohacking Wild West to a whole new level. Some individuals are implanting chips or magnets into their bodies, giving them abilities that sound almost superhuman.

Real-Life Examples of Biohacking

Biohacking
Let’s dive in and show what biohacking looks like in real life. Some experiments are conducted with doctors, while others are performed in slightly dicey conditions.

Some biohackers inject stem cells into their joints, or take a multiple supply of supplements every day, or even more, use infrared baths to try to live 180 years!

Biohacking

There are also scientists who jab themselves with gene therapy to prevent a lifestyle of diseases. Other people get microchips implanted in their hands. This then allows them to unlock doors, log into computers, and do other things with devices from remote distances. These implants illustrate how much biohacking can make ordinary life easy.

Another crazy example is magnetic fingers: a guy from one biohacking group has fingers which can feel and attract metal because of the magnets implanted into his skin.

Biohacking

Why Do People Do This?
It’s a desire to feel better, really, and see how much more we can squeeze out of our bodies. Some people do not want to get ill or grow older; others would like to be mightier and smarter. Biohacking in short is about living longer and healthier lives.

Want to Try Biohacking?
Most biohackers aren’t from large research companies; they are just about any ordinary person, including scientists, engineers, and artists. They hack into their bodies either out of curiosity or simply for fun.

Even though you are not a scientist, you can still do some basic biohacking. Start by using a smart watch or fitness tracker to monitor your health. You can improve your performance by eating healthy, exercise, or even meditation.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could try nootropics-supplements that will boost your brainpower. Or, if you have a medical condition such as diabetes, you might benefit from getting technological implants that help manage it.

Biohacking is an amazing way to get to know your body better and to keep it performing at its max. You never know, maybe the time will come when people will start calling them “superhumans.”

What’s Next?

As people transform their bodies, there are questions about its implication for society. Could people with access to biohacking tech become “superhumans” as others fall behind? Some think that if biohacking gets out of control, it will make the gaps between the rich and the rest all the greater.

Biohacking

Indeed, though we do not have clear answers yet, one thing is certain: biohacking is blowing up fast, and it might shape the future of humanity.

Perhaps you too will be a biohacker someday.
