Google AI-Generated Images Detection is a new feature that helps users identify whether an image was created or edited using AI, ensuring more transparency in online content. So, it’s pretty clear now that AI has gotten really good at making images. It used to be that AI would create weird pictures with crooked ears or too many arms, but now it’s hard to tell if an image is real or AI-made. Because of this, Google has announced they’ll use a new standard to help spot images that were made or edited by AI.
The new standard is called C2PA (Coalition for Content Trust and Originality), and it’s going to be a part of Google Search soon. This will help figure out where an image came from and whether it’s original or not. Google has already started working on using the latest version of this standard since the beginning of the year.
This feature will also be coming to YouTube later on. For now, when you use Google Search, you’ll be able to click on the “About this image” tab to see if AI was used to create it. Google also wants to add this to ads and YouTube videos in the future.
Google is one of the biggest companies supporting C2PA, but it’s not the only one. Other companies like Sony and Leica are also on board. Nikon and Canon have also said they’ll start using these standards.
We don’t know yet if Google will add this to Android. And another big question is whether Apple will do something similar.
