At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he won gold in javelin; his country’s first medal in any event for 32 years and its first Olympic gold after a period of forty. Neeraj Chopra won the Silver medal for his country India this time as he coudn’t defend his title.
Arshad Nadeem threw the javelin 92.97 meters to break the Olympic record and claim gold at Stade de France The 27-year old from Pakistan not only gave his country its first ever track and field medal but also their 1st Olympic medal since the last thirty-two years.
It is quite inspiring to look at his journey as he managed to do so in a place where there are not great sports being played. In a cricket-mad country, it’s his hard work and family that brought Arshad success.
People in whole of Pakistan are celebrating since last night , from his hometown of Mian Chunnu in Punjab to the big city of Karachi. Every one is ecstatic.
By winning gold, Arshad Nadeem has beaten his good friend and rival, Neeraj Chopra from India, who had won gold in Tokyo three years ago and was the world champion.
“The boy who won gold is also my son”
Neeraj Chopra’s mom said she’s super proud of her son, even though he got silver.
“This silver feels like gold to us,” she told an Indian news agency.
“The boy who won gold is also my son. He worked really hard for it.”
This was such a wholesome statement from Neeraj’s mother.
It was such a great achievement for a country like Pakistan and it’s people. The story of Arshad Nadeem is truly inspirational.
