Nokia Leaving Europe: What It Means for the Consumers

Is Nokia Leaving Europe? Well, yes, as Nokia phones are being pulled out of the European market, an unexpected decision for most of the company’s consumers. After the Nokia smartphone manufacturing was taken over by HMD Global, the company has stepped down from selling Nokia devices across Europe while it continues to do so in the Far East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

At one point, Nokia was ruling the roost with its tough, black and white screen phones. Nonetheless, when smart phones emerged the Nokia phone division was sold to HMD Global which has of late been manufacturing Nokia branded smart phones. In recent years, however, HMD Global has decided to set its sight back on its own brand instead of only on Nokia.

Nokia Leaving Europe

While HMD Global has an official European Nokia website today, it does not sell any of the phones, but does offer software for Nokia phones. However, the time frame on this support is still not well defined and current Nokia users have no idea of the next update.

It is also crucial to stress that the end 2.0 does not impact on the initial Nokia that provides network infrastructure solutions and owns many technologies’ patents. The company is still an active participant in the industry, it has even sued market giants such as Apple and Samsung for its patents.

Thus, even though Nokia phones are withdrawing from Europe, Nokia as a brand is still present in other countries and remains a major player in the sphere of high technology, based on its original activity.
