Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS), is worried that he might get killed because of his support for making peace with Israel, according to a report by Politico. MBS has been talking to US Congress members about how scared he is, even mentioning Anwar Sadat, the Egyptian leader who was assassinated after making peace with Israel in the 1980s.
Politico said that MBS is also worried about the threats he’s facing and why any deal with Israel should include a real plan for a Palestinian state, especially with the recent war in Gaza making people in the Arab world even angrier at Israel.
Secret Deal Between Saudi Arabia and United States
The report talked about a secret deal that’s still being worked on between Saudi Arabia and the US (Saudi-US Deal). The deal includes things like security promises, help with a civilian nuclear program, and investments in tech. In return, Saudi Arabia would cut back on its ties with China and start official relations with Israel.
But MBS is upset because the Israeli government doesn’t want to include a real plan for a Palestinian state in the deal. The report called this whole situation “a clever diplomatic marketing strategy.”
