This isn’t the first time Iran’s been accused of plotting against US officials. Last year, a guy from Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps was charged with trying to kill Trump’s former National Security Advisor, John Bolton. Apparently, they wanted revenge for the US killing an Iranian commander back in 2020.
