American Activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi Shot in West Bank During Protest Against Settlement Expansion

A 26-year-old American Activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi , was shot and killed during a protest in the West Bank. Aysenur, who was originally from Turkey, was protesting against the expansion of Jewish settlements in Beita, near Nablus.

Local reports say Israeli troops shot her. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) explained they shot at someone who was throwing rocks and seemed dangerous. The U.S. is trying to find out exactly what happened. Matthew Miller from the U.S. State Department said they’re really sad about Aysenur’s death and are talking to her family.

The U.S. ambassador, Jack Lew, mentioned that keeping Americans safety is their top priority. Aysenur was taken to a hospital in Nablus with a serious head injury and didn’t survive.The IDF is also looking into the incident to understand how Aysenur was hit. Reports say she was helping farmers stay safe from violence by Israeli settlers.

Aysenur had both American and Turkish citizenship, and the Turkish government called her death a “murder” by Israeli soldiers.This sad event happened right after Israeli forces left Jenin, where they had been for over a week. During that time, 36 Palestinians were killed, including children.

For the past 50 years, Israel has been building homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where now over 700,000 Jews live. Most of the world thinks these settlements shouldn’t be there, but Israel doesn’t agree.
