Moeen Ali Retirement Marks the End of a Legendary Career in England Cricket!
Moeen Ali is done playing cricket for England! Moeen Ali wasn’t considered for England’s White ball series against Australia, so, now he thinks that it is the time for the new and young players to take over.
Moeen Ali, 37, had already stopped playing Test cricket in 2021. But he came back for a big series in 2023 and helped England tie. He took 3 important wickets in the last game!
Moeen, while talking to the Daily Mail said it is the right time to retire, even though he still thinks that he is fit enough to compete on the international level.
“I’ve played a lot of cricket for England. It just felt like the right time. I’ve done my part. Playing for England were the best days of my life,”
Moeen said. “I could try to play again, but I know in reality, I won’t. Even though I’m retiring, it’s not because I’m not good enough. I still feel I can play. But I understand the team needs to move forward into a new cycle.”
Moeen was in England’s T20 World Cup team in 2024 and the 50-over World Cup last year. But he didn’t do much with batting or bowling, and England didn’t win the titles again.
Moeen Plans to Coach in the Future
Moeen said he will keep playing franchise cricket for a while and is thinking about getting into coaching after that. He also wants people to remember him as a ‘free spirit.’
“I’ll play some franchise cricket because I still love playing. But coaching is something I really want to do — I want to be one of the best coaches. I can learn a lot from Baz. I hope people remember me as a free spirit. I hit some good shots and some bad ones, but hopefully people enjoyed watching me,” Moeen said.
He’ll also be playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the ongoing 2024 Caribbean Premier League.
