US Government Considers Google Breakup: Android and Chrome Might Be Sold!

The US government is pushing for a Google Breakup, potentially forcing the tech giant to split up and sell off key assets like Android and Chrome, in a move that could reshape the digital landscape

So, the US government is thinking about breaking up Google, calling it a “monopoly,” according to Bloomberg. This is one of the possible punishments they’re talking about.Google Breakup

Last week, a court accused Google of monopolizing the search market illegally. This means Google could get hit with huge fines and other penalties. Bloomberg says this could be the end of Google as a tech “giant.”

In case you missed it, the court said Google broke antitrust laws by spending billions to become the default search engine for everyone. Now, the US Department of Justice is talking about breaking up the company as one of the punishments.

Google Might Have to Sell Android or Chrome

Sources say Google could be forced to share data with its competitors and might have to take extra steps to stop it from getting an unfair advantage in AI. Other possible punishments could be:

  • Selling Android.
  • Selling AdWords.
  • Selling Chrome.

Reuters reached out to Google and the US Department of Justice, but neither of them has said anything yet. If Google is forced to sell its biggest money-makers or share its data with others, it might make other big companies like Apple, Meta, and Microsoft a little nervous too.
